Writing, Blogging & Content Strategy
Way back in 2003, I started a blog to document the first year of my first baby. It’s still exists out there somewhere — if you ask me nicely maybe I will show it to you. I’ve also blogged professionally on corporate intranets, technology and parenting blogs and most recently on blogs focusing on small businesses. Here’s a sampling of my work:
- PopTech blog. A network of world-changing people, projects and ideas.
- BatchBlue Software. Posts on topics related to small business, social media, and starting a software company
- kidoinfo.com. Nature, babies!
- Guest posts on lots of other places including Business Week. My favorite? The one about the Sleestacks.
Good, clear writing that aligns with your business goals helps support your brand, gives readers insight and best of all, brings in new customers. I can help you tell your story while giving readers something to think about.
Speaking
My role as a start-up founder and an early and avid user of social has afforded many chances to speak on small business, social media, and the intersection of these topics. I’m especially fond of panels, where my varied experience and strong opinions make for an interesting voice in a variety of conversations.
2011 “Friends with Business Benefits: How Integrations Sell Apps” SXSW panel. (Hear audio)
This panel, which included Scott McMullan from Google as a moderator and fellow Small Business Web members/friends from MailChimp, Formstack and FreshBooks, was a conversation about how integrated partnerships and data-sharing across SaaS platforms increases sales and was attended by both vendors and consumers. Sadly, Justin Bieber did not make an appearance as hoped.
2010 “How Parents are Using Social Media” kidoinfo.com panel (View description)
The first in this series, “Parents Using Social Media,” featured a panel discussion moderated by Mary-Kim Arnold, the Executive Director of the Rhode Island Council for the Humanities. The panel included four local parents using social media in a variety of ways, some socially, others for business, and often for both.
2009 “Beyond the Hype: How to Use Social Media Tools to Grow Your Business” SmallBizTechnology webinar (See presentation)
This co-presented webinar focused on success stories, do’s and don’ts and how to get the most out of your social media efforts as a small business owner.
2008 “Inbound Marketing Challenges & Solutions from the Trenches” (Watch video)
Panel of marketers and executives that have successfully implemented inbound marketing at their companies organized by the good folks at Hubspot. Panelists discussed biggest challenges they faced, the solutions they found, and the strategies for overcoming the obstacles in adopting inbound marketing.
Collaboration
Doing business means building relationships, whether it’s in-person, via email, through social media or more likely, some combination of many different channels. As one of the co-founders of the Small Business Web (read press), I’ve worked with diverse companies from promoting tiny start-ups to landing a sponsorship from a Fortune 100 company. Whether it’s running a 500 person event, working with a journalist on a story, or finding a solid business partnership, good communication is key.
Consulting
If any of the above sounds interesting, perhaps I can help do it for you. Please drop a line and say hello!
